Set it on HD and turn up your speakers. I want to know what this 'clacking' noise is in my engine.
What you're listening to:
2000 Honda Accord LX
F23A4 Vtec engine
94k miles
One previous owner
Older couple, I have all the dealer service records since it was new.
Never missed an oil change every 3500 miles (dealer stamped)
Mobil 1 synthetic every 3k since 63k miles (when I bought the car)
What you're listening for:
Clacking/Knocking sound on cold start between 2800 - 3200 RPM
Louder on the down rev, but sustainable between those RPM
Only on a cold engine.. significantly quieter once warmed up
Sounds like its coming from mid engine.. around the water block
Whats been done already:
Valve check and adjustment
Timing belt, water pump, balancer belt change (just because)
Balancer shaft pulley change (TSB about out of spec pulley/loose balancer)
What I know its not:
Injector noise
valve train noise
accessory noise
anything loose in the engine bay or exhaust
What it could be:
Worn rod bearings.. eeeh.. possible but I have doubts
Worn balancer shaft thrust washers.. again possible
Out of spec balancer shafts (from the factory? )
excessive play in piston wrist pins
Out of spec pistons and/or cyl bore (slop)
I have purchased new rod and crank bearings along with crank thrust washers
Waiting on piston rings then on to a lower end rebuild.
If its wrist pins or out of spec pistons or components a rebuilt may very well not fix anything at all.
Ideas????????????
